  • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support

    The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is the newest qualification in the aged care industry.

    Students may do this course as an entry pathway into the aged care industry. Our CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support course is designed to develop multi-skilled workers who are industry ready to enter the broad range of services supporting the growing aging population in residential and community settings.

    Our specially designed seventeen (17) week program allows students a broad range of training via online topic focused video recordings, electronic learning material, live five (5) day per week trainer support and one day per week physical classroom support and assessment across five of our centrally based locations.

    Students will work through a series of short prerecorded topic focused lectures that allow them to acquire knowledge and skills from the comfort of their home. Students are also required to attend one (1) day per week classroom assessment across any of our five (5) centrally located Classroom Support locations. On top of this, students have access to a live trainer five (5) days per week via ZOOM, phone or email. This is a carefully managed program that supports students through their learning journey ensuring they keep on-track and motivated.

    A mandatory component of our program is the 120 hours of practical placement, working within an actual aged care environment. Our dedicated Practical Placement Coordinator will secure you a placement and support you through this process.

    The course comprises of 15 units (9 Core and 6 Elective). Successful completion of this course requires the fulfillment of all 15 units of competency.

    Course Duration

    The theory component of the course is timetabled around a seventeen (17) week program with thirteen (13) separate Due Dates. Once students have completed the theory component of their course they are eliible to undertake the mandatory 120 hour Practical Placement (Usually over three full weeks) component of the course.

    Classroom Support

    Classroom support is scheduled one (1) day per week over the 17 week period at any of our five (5) central locations at Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, Logan, Ipswich and the Gold Coast.

    Classroom Support days are scheduled between 9.30am and 2.30pm.

    Flexible Training and Assessment

    Students can determine their own location and timing to complete their theory components utilising the AEATS learning portal. It is anticipated that students should dedicate a minimum of twelve (12) hours per week over the 17 weeks in order to meet individual unit Due Dates.

  • Admission Criteria

    Applicants seeking entry into CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support course should meet the following criteria.

    • Be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen.
    • Successfully complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy and Digital assessment (LLND) test. 15 years of age or older, and not enroled at school.
    • Not already have a certificate III or higher qualification completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student and foundation skills qualifications do not count).
    • Not be enrolled in another qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred, whether funded by DTET or not (foundation skills qualifications do not count).
    • Must be able to produce a clear National Police Certificate (When requested).
    • For practical placement, most centers will require students to provide evidence of having two (2) Covid-19 vaccinations, and their booster when eligible.
    • Permanently residing within Queensland.

    The CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support is an appropriate qualification for people seeking work in the aged care industry and direct care work. With an ageing population their is a high demand for care workers in the aged care and associated industries. This qualification is generally identified as the minimal qualification required to work in these areas.

    Possible Course Pathways

    Once students have completed their qualification at the certificate III level they may decide to continue their studies in the CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support or candidates may also like to progress to higher level qualifications within the aged care sector and across the community sector.

    The CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support requires the completion of 18 units, however for those students who have successfully completed the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support with AEATS, they will be automatically granted credits for 10 of these units.

    AEATS will also recognise credit transfers upon proof of units completed with other RTOs.

    • Students who do not meet the eligibility criteria are required to enrol as Fee For Service. Please contact AEATS for information about this fee. There is no enrolment opportunity for International Students.

    To be eligible for the concession fee, you must be eligible to access subsidised training as well as meet one of the following criteria:

    • Hold a valid Health Care, Card or Pensioner Concession Card issued by Centrelink or Veteran’s Affairs
    • Advice from the Department of Education, Training and Employment that Abstudy has been approved
    • Identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
    • Have a verified disability.

    Proof of eligibility for concession must be provided at the time of enrolment.
